

LEED  for Homes is a green home certification system for assuring homes are  designed and built to be energy- and resource-efficient and healthy for  occupants. This house renovation is done Georgia and it achieved the  first LEED Platinum certification in the area. It  serves as a model of greener living for the entire community and heavily  focuses on reducing energy use and the reuse of materials. The 4  bedroom, 3 bath project features triple pane low-e argon windows, high  efficiency Energy Star LED lighting fixtures and compact fluorescent  bulbs and spray foam insulation.
Other  energy efficiency and water saving upgrades include a solar thermal hot  water system with an on-demand hot water circulation loop, dual-flush  toilets and low-flow bathroom fixtures,  Energy Star Appliances, programmable thermostat with high efficiency  gas furnace and air conditioners, mechanical ventilation, as well as a  5000 gallon rainwater collection system for irrigation. The necessary  plumbing, for the future use of greywater or rainwater for toilet  flushing, has also been installed.
